The Green M&M’s character just ditched her trademark go-go boots, opting for a sensible pair of tennis sneakers, and fans are genuinely enraged by the decision.

According to reports, Mars Inc. have redesigned the M&M’s characters as part of its “global commitment to creating a world where everyone feels they belong and society is inclusive.”

Tennis Green M&M character sports a new look

Ms. Green just waved goodbye to her glossy lips and knee-high boots, exchanging her signature look for something more ‘laid-back’.

As reported by NBC, the green M&M’s character’s sneakers now “reflect her effortless confidence.”

Prior to the redesign, Ms. Green had been the more feminine of the bunch, alongside the brown M&M’s character, who has also ditched her high-heels for lower pumps.

Tennis M&M’s character redesign explained

The redesign of the M&M bunch came as a pretty big shock to candy fans, but there is some logic behind it all.

A statement released by Mars Inc. read: “M&M’S has long been committed to creating colorful fun for all, and this purpose serves as a more concrete commitment to what we’ve always believed as a brand: that everyone has the right to enjoy moments of happiness, and fun is the most powerful way to help people feel that they belong.”

The company announced that the characters will have “more nuanced personalities to underscore the importance of self-expression and power of community through storytelling.”

As per The Daily Mail, the idea is that the M&M characters will fit into a “more dynamic, progressive world.”

Tennis Fans fury over green M&M’s character makeover

Over on Twitter, candy fans have some pretty strong opinions on the switch up of M&M’s characters.

One person tweeted: “NOO THEY UN YASSIFIED THE GREEN M&M.”

Another wrote: “Can’t stop thinking about how they took away the green m&m’s heels.”

Somebody else took to Twitter: “What happened to her?”
