Tim Sherwood has stated that Tottenham hero Steven Bergwijn has ‘got something’ about him, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (22/01/22 at 1:55 pm).

The former Spurs boss thinks Daniel Levy is ‘trying to get the price up’ in possibly selling Bergwijn to Ajax.

On Wednesday night, Bergwijn produced the best moment of his Spurs career when he scored two stoppage-time goals during a dramatic 3-2 win at Leicester.

Even though, in the 95th minute, Spurs were losing 2-1, somehow, Antonio Conte’s side were leading 3-2 after 97 minutes and then left the King Power with all three points.

Bergwijn was the man of the moment for the north London club, as he came off the bench to rip through Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Even though there is talk about the Dutchman’s future at the club, Sherwood shared why he has got ‘a lot of time’ for a player like Bergwijn.

“I have got a lot of time for Steven, with the reaction he produced the other night,” said Sherwood. “£15 million from Ajax, that’s not enough.

“Daniel Levy is trying to get that price up. He did himself no harm the other night. But he came on with the correct attitude.

“He wanted to show the manager that perhaps he is worthy – this kid has got something. For £15 million, surely he is worth keeping hold of?

“And perhaps Antonio Conte doesn’t want to cut his nose off to spite his face. With the attitude he showed the other night, he might think ‘you know what, he is one of the troops. I can work with this kid because of the attitude’.”

It seems as though Ajax tabled a £15 million bid for Bergwijn’s services, as reported by the Evening Standard, but Spurs turned that offer down.

If Levy wanted more money before that brace, well he’s probably going to want a lot more now.

There is no doubt that the interest from Ajax will remain, it’s a case of how will Tottenham react if a very strong bid is put in for the winger?

Over the course of Bergwijn’s time at the club, he has struggled, so do Spurs still let him go whilst his stock is high or do those two goals change everything?
