South African singer Kelly Khumalo slammed President Cyril Ramaphosa over freedom and democracy in the country, via a tweet on Monday 17 January.
KELLY: ‘FREEDOM IS USED TO COVER THE REALITY OF OUR COUNTRY’
Kelly Khumalo took aim at President Cyril Ramaphosa and the government on Twitter. The Presidency tweeted about protecting the South African constitution and democracy in the country but Kelly was conflicted.
“We need to protect our Constitution, our democratic state and the electoral process from anyone who wants to weaken our democracy and deny the South African people of their hard-won freedom,” tweeted the Presidency.
Kelly was not impressed. She questioned what democracy means if many are hungry, the rate of teenage pregnancies are high as well as crime and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). So, she retweeted the Presidency’s tweet with her thoughts.
“Mr President sir. What does democracy even mean if we are hungry without jobs, high teenage pregnancies, not to mention the level of crime, gender based violence and the misuse of Government funds. Are we really free? Or freedom is used to cover the reality of our country,” she tweeted.
Democracy THE ‘EMPINI’ HITMAKER: ‘I AM DISGUSTED BY MUGOVERNMENT’
This was not the first time Kelly slammed the government. The Empini hitmaker said she was “disgusted” by the government in July 2021 in her infamous Russian accent.
This was because she felt the government was treating the country like toilet paper. Back then she also spoke about freedom. The video racked up over 159 990 views on Instagram. So, take a look…
“You know, I usually having smile on my face in morning but not this day. I am disgusted! I am disgusted by mugovernment and mucupcake treating our country like its toilet paper, you just wipe your a** and put it and flush it in toilet,” said Kelly.
“They will keep taking this money because they feel haha we fought for freedom therefore these people owe us,” she continued.
